What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding and changing behavior.  It is widely recognized as the most effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

Therapists have used ABA to support children with autism and related developmental disorders since the 1960s.  ABA therapy for autism focuses on developing communication, social, self-care, play, and other essential skills that help children succeed at home, in school, and in their communities.

ABA therapy can also help reduce challenging behaviors that may interfere with learning, daily activities, and social interactions. Research shows that early intervention can lead to stronger long-term outcomes, particularly in communication and language development, making early childhood treatment highly beneficial whenever possible.

In addition to autism services, ABA is commonly used to address a variety of behavioral and developmental concerns with typically-developing children, including toileting, food selectivity, sleep difficulties, learning challenges, and helping children tolerate medical or dental procedures.
